flash! ringworld miniseries to be aired on scifi channel! We can't wait for its debut!

ringworld.org is...

...a collaborative project between three computer- and Web-savvy friends who decided that we needed a testbed for expanding and honing our skills. So we created Destiny to be the host for all of our projects.

The creation of the Destiny project has allowed us to gain valuable experience in system administration, Web design, Internet security, and other areas. We are putting this experience to use now in our professional capacities, while we continue to extend our skills with this project.

But it was not only for our own benefit that we created Destiny. Using the Destiny project, we have built a Web community for ourselves and our friends that provides e-mail, Web hosting, and other services, so that people we know can also have a staging ground for their Internet-based projects. We are also able to host services for several organizations that we are involved with. A selection of these can be found on the credits page.

Lastly, we promote security by not using insecure protocols such as telnet, FTP, and POP3. Instead, we use secure replacements such as SSH and pop3s/imaps (POP3 and IMAP over SSL). By offering only secure services, our users learn about them, and hopefully pass on the knowelge. We also encourage our users to make use of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) or GNU Privacy Guard (GPG) technologies for secure Internet communication.

Ringworld.org has been built entirely on Open Source and Free Software. We are currently using Debian GNU/Linux as Destiny's operating system, Apache for Web services, Postfix for e-mail, and OpenSSH for shell access.

So who are we?

ringworld.org was created by Scott Dier, Andy Zbikowski, and Kevin Bullock. Welcome to our little corner of the Internet.
